SIBS - Sealine F42 clear winner for me

good to meet you. Cant persuade you in the IPS 415? Can mount an extra helm on top of the t-top?

I quite agree Seahope - I thought it was a fab boat too, and I'm not even into flybridges. Judging by some of the conversations going on they'll take a few orders before SIBS is out, and I think they will do very well with it.

Have just looked around the F42 and obvious competitors and I would buy the F42 if I could. Any donations to the cause appreciated :-)

Fully agree and I am not particularly a fan of Sealine. I particularly wanted to look at that and the Fairline 42. For me no comparason, the Sealine is way better. Mind you that opinion is not helped by the fact it took three attempts to get to see the Fairline 42 on Friday, then unfortunately I had to be accompanied by one of their more poncy sales staff. Its a pity because I am sure most of them are nice everyday people.
The Sealine has lots more space and gets away from the same old design/layout in a practical and useable way. I am not really a fan of pod drives but going stern to using the transom joystick would be fun.

I hated it on paper (and posted as such) I decided to go and have a look for myself and have to say there is a lot of usable space, chopped 2ft off the bow that isnt really needed for cheaper berthing costs too. :)

But typical boat show design, looks great tied up, 5 berth but with only 2 forward facing seats
Me thinks this boat is happier in the marina than out at sea especially with IPS without a shaft option, take it or leave it.............we will see .

They were certainly very keen to sell one. Obviously, the tactic of having SWMBO slightly blinged-up for the show obviously helped as we were shown around all of the nice boats without any issues and offered several free drinks to boot. I thought we were pushing it a little when we looked at the 78' ones though :-)

A F42 salesman even offering me 100% of the price of my boat in part exchance. Of course they were keen to sell me one before the VAT increase in January.

I couldn't get on the Fairline new one as the queues were too large so a lady showed us around a bigger one which seemed smaller that the inside of the smaller Sealine!

A loverly day at the show though and nice to have some sun again

Agree about the F42. It was definitely the star of the show and way better than the Fairline.

On Friday I had absolutely NO difficulty on getting on that boat and the nice lady even said I could go on with or without someone from Fairline!!

What first struck SWMBO was the waste of space on the port side saloon. Yes there was a big TV but compared with the Sealine F42 space was much reduced.

Actually we came to the conclusion that maybe the F42 central berths would make a great main cabin. Seemed so much space.

Please introduce me to whoever offered 100% p/ex. This was not my experience hence my not ordering right now. If that was on offer I would have ordered for sure.

Mind you looking at the Squaddie 42 video the only thing of note they could find was the tender lift which did look excellent, but not a reason to buy sadly. Now I wonder if Sealine would do a special. Hmmm....

Another boat that caught our attention was the Beneteau Trawler 52. Seemed a really nice boat.

Would be interesting how both the Sealine F42 and Fairline 42 Squadron compare with what have been a big global seller as the Azimut 43 Flybridge now in its fifth year production run. Was this boat at the show. I still think and up down bathing platform as the Az 43 Fly works better to the Fline tender launch system.

Azimut had a 43s on the water, but that was it.
I had a look round the 38 fly at libs in January - very nicely built but with the £/€ rate, plus med layout etc I can't see why any uk buyers would bother.

You can buy a uk built boat which is bigger for less cash ( by some margin )

Is the Beneteau Swift Trawler 52 at the show or just details?

At the show on the water all on its own. From memory past Sealine and down the far pontoon almost to the end. Very affable Irish guy there and we chatted a lot about sad news on Dublin City Moorings and the new bridge in Dublin. Well you CAN chat to the Irish for a long time. Maybe that is why I liked the boat ;-)

Oh and there were no details on the boat last Friday!

Yes Jez but I was speaking about Pros and Cons not just prices. Sterling versus Euro is much better now then in January so hopefully in a few months time, things might be back to 07 again for you Brits. Did it not touch 1:20 for each single pound a few weeks back. Now going around 1:17

Hi, yes currency aside I did like the Azimut 38 (didnt look at the 43 as its out of my league). Not been convinced by the styling (mirror windos are a bit bling for my taste) but the 38 was a nice boat for sure.

Its not just italian boats, I am seriously considering a Jeanneau NC11, but I cant justify buying one now as not only will I cop depreciation but also its likely I would also cop another 20% currency drop if the £ regains a bit of strength.

I think the halcyon days of 1.5€/£ are long gone though, I think it should resettle around 1.35 ish

Yes I agree about the currency.
I also like the NC11 and here with a EURO it is competitive. What I am afraid is that I think with twin D3 200hp she is underpowered. Jeanneau claim a very good 34 knots speed, which they might have done, but I wonder what sort of loading they had. Top and cruising speed figures are always to decrease by a 10% in the best cases, in worst cases its even worse.
When I was purchasing the 335SC I spoke to a guy who used to do seatrials for Gobbi and he told me to avoid any 41 200hp equipped model as you increase fuel at cruise by more to 25%. He told me hull one was made with those and did 36 knots, but was empty, no antifouling polished hull, and no optionals with 2 persons onboard. He told me in real life a 335 SC which weighs at about 7 tons will do about 29 knots with the 41s twin 200hp Volvo. Myn has the 43s and I did most 34 knots with 3/4 tanks of fuel and water, three people, tender rib, and loads of weight and optionals. To get to this you also have to trim a bit, as the extended plane has the habit of sticking the hull too much over a certain speeds let say +25 knots.
After the 335 if the future provides a good ammount of tips I might go for a Primatist G41 for the hardtop, but no patio door. We will see, at the moment I happy where I am!
