Off we went to SIBS as usual yesterday. After we had looked at some of the AWBs' and some of the favourites, I was beginning to think, 'They're all the same ol' same oh'. All really nice but wow, big bucks! I liked the Squadron 55 as most did, nice improvements, lovely to look at and pretty much what you'd expect. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I always try and find something new and surprising if poss. A couple of years ago, the boat internals and finish that impressed me the most was the Eling E3-4. Not a boat for me as it's a gentlemens' displacement cruiser, but the space and finish internally is one that many builders should strive to equal. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Walking past the Pershing 56, 'Gosh', what a beatiful boat (from the outside) I noticed a very unusual, almost weird looking flybridge boat with nice business like hull lines, in the style of a Florida Sports fisher or a bit 'Riva-ish'. What first caught my eye was the 'Romeo and Juliet' balcony with table and chairs on the back of the Flybridge.

'Must be joking,' I thought but looked at the sign on the pontoon to read... Maritimo . Never heard of them, but this was a first time show bringing in this quirky looking boat from Australia.

This boat had many people just walking by but I would recommend a second look. While I was on board, Jane kept trying to pull me off, saying, 'Forget it, No way!" I'm glad I didn't get off and in fact during the day I pulled quite a few people back to have a look at some of the best innovative ideas with best use of space that I could find at the show! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

For example, this 48 enclosed flybridge, long distance cruising boat looks top heavy, but like a double decker bus couldn't be further from the truth. The RCD plate read, "Class-A for 26 people!" /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The hull lines looked great (to me) with a really nice flair to the bow. The wide guarded walk rounds and both saloons were all classicly finished and the space below including the walk-in engine room was great! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No, not a boat for me but definitely worth looking at if you're there. I will certainly be looking forward to seeing the Sports versions arriving later. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I like this post alot
as you seem like me, always looking for something new and different
infact I am surprised the Maritimo and Mustang Enclosed bridge have not been the talk here
as I think the Enclosed Bridge up top makes so much sense for a place with unpredictable weather as the UK

the mentality seems too much of having a med looking boat in the UK, but personally I dont understand why
boats like Riviera with there Sport Yacht models and Enclosed Bridge boats like Rivera, Maritimo, Mustang from Australia and Viking and Cabo from USA should be more the crop of what british buyers with there weather IMO should look for

should have posted some pictures so we could appreciate even more, and may be if the dealer sells a few extra of these he might give you a present :P

It looks modular. How many decks can you add before it falls over?

I guess you have never been on these type of boats, as I am sure your comment would be different
have friends who have owner great FB boats Italian, English builds and switched to a Hatteras Enclosed bridge, and there words say that compared to the Hatt the ride is uncomparable

Well spotted Moody! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The last boat we saw, strangely whilst trying to find Rogers 'Quirky Thing' was indeed the Pershing!

Bloody hell what a boat, 30 tonnes and 50 knots..............WOW!

I loved it, but barring a forthcoming lottery win..........ney, huge lottery win its sadly not for me. The chap on the boat gave us the full tour, and my o my I loved it.

I still managed to miss the 'Quirky thing' however!
Jas.

On seeing it I laughed out loud then promptly tripped on the pontoon. Despite the innovative use of space, the look of a boat has to make me look back at it after I've moored up and frankly I would hide from this one out of embarrassment!

One of these is parked opposite my brother's flat in Sydney and it does look like a stack of boxes, but then, it is built for the Queensland environment where people try and hide from the sun. I assume the Oz spec boat comes with a serious aircon package.

thx for the pic adey. Does anyone know, do you drive it from the helm in that pic or is there another helm somewhere? Do you have to look thru a patio door glass, then people milling around, then another windscreen, to see where you're going? Does that work ok?

I loved that boat allthough a bit on the big size..

We find that we use the flybridge a lot more since its closed and gets very warm with a bit of sun, also you can have a carpet and it stayes very clean too.

win win,

Tom

Couple of pics of the boat in our SIBS gallery. This was one of my favourite boats at the show. It's probably not the best time to be introducing a new brand to the market, but you have to welcome such a different take on flybridge boating. Particularly if, like me, you're a ginger and could get sunburned in a submarine.

We tested her just before the show. The report should be appearing in MBM in the new year.

I'm surprised that knowbody has mentioned the price of the Maritimo, I liked the boat inside and I thought the idea of the patio area was great, helm position confortable etc, but at £800,000 I thought it was expensive. There was almost no where to hang clothes although the under bed closet was clever.

As a real alternative did anyone look at the new Moody 45DS, I know its a sail boat but with a design almost identical and in many cases better than the average power boat and an 8 knot cruising peed on engine I was almost tempted from the dark side! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The brand from Oz that is generating a bit of interest here in the US is Riviera.

Riviera sells well in US, I think it is about 50 boats per year, it is a regarded make in small Sport Fisherman under 50 feet, n fact it is also feeling the downturn

is that the Jeanneau 50 Prestige Fly in the pictures looks very good for a competitive price, I did not know it was launched in Southampton,
the Maritimo has the all around deck with high bulwurk which is unusual for a Sportfisherman and also the internal stairs is another bonus, but compeition is pickick on this as small Riviera etc
I heard really good things about Martimo, for the UK market they should have brought new C60 Sport Cabriolet which looks awesome

love your gallery,really good

no comments over here on the following:
- Jeanneau 50 Prestige Fly which was a world first or second deserved more IMO looks fine from MBM pics and price starts under 600 EUs, it will sell like hot cakes in Italy in France
- Tuna 40 was also interested about this new Drettmann brand build in Turkey with a lobster, picnic boat design

other things which struck me is the Princess V 62 bathing platform, which looks different to there standard layout and also little to none comments on the SC 47 which does not look half that bad eighter

I must say that I agree with your comments, which is why I posted originally, this boat was one of the only boats exhibiting that's really different. I'm 100% sure it's not everyone's cup of tea though.

The 48 enclosed flybridge looks a little strange to us but when you look at the UK weather, it can make sense to have an enclosed flybridge. I often found it bloody cold up top on my Phantom and usually wore my flotation suit for warmth unless really sunny.

Mentioning the internal staircase, did you notice that this has gone on the new Squadron 55. Big mistake! imho.

I also agree about the Maritimo Cabriolet 60, great looker and they will also offer a 50 which is probably big enough for UK, epecially in the south.

btw. the controls at the rear qtr. were an optional docking station on this one, but I think you knew this. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
