Shurflo pump problem?

I have a Shurflo 12v pump on the motorhome which does not appear to be working... Similar to the one on the boat which has always worked fine. With inlet pipe & outlet pipe disconnected should you feel a 'suck' and 'blow' though the ports when powered? Tank is full and usually no problem, just takes a few seconds to pump water, albeit with initial spluttering. The pump I know is only 3 yrs old - is it knackered?

There are many different SHurflo pumps. I have 2 x SHurflo pumps for the watermaker. One can replace the heads without replacing the motor. I recently had the motor refurbished as it had stopped working.
You need to give a bit more detail

I've got a cheap 12V bilge pump which I use on the end of a stick so I can suck water out of the bilge. If I wire it up with the red to positive of the battery (and black to negative) it whirrs away and does nothing. If I change the polarity it works like a trojan.

That's because you are down under.

It could also be the coriolis effect.

I'll have to check into that. A bit like a compass pointing North in the Southern Hemisphere AND it still points North in the Northern Hemisphere. I thought it would be the other way round?
