Just spoken to the old man.

He has decided he wants a shrimper for next season.
I have looked on the net and there is '96 model on the market for £17500. He has said he wants something a bit newer as he is worried about self draining cockpit as he said some of the older ones donot have it. Done a bit more digging and have found that self drainers go back quite away. found an 1986 wooden one for £5500.
so i we can get away with any age going back ten yrs plus. I think he probably wants a newer one, he is sixty and doesnot want to be doing too much on it.

Does any one have an alterntive boat we can try????
It must be similar size and weight as the boat has to be moved off the mooring in
a SW blow it will be moored in anglesey.
Sleeping accomodation to Shrimper standard only. my old dear will day sail only and will not stay aboard. the old man will sleep unde an upturned tender proppeed up by a stick, so comfort is not important.

any ideas.

I suggested a nicholson 26 type to extend the cruising area but he wants a lighter boat.

Drascombe

Is a Drascombe too much of a dinghy and not enough of a yacht?

If not a Drifter or Longboat might fill the bill.

Yes

He refused to get a lugger, even tho it was what the olde dear wanted for years a boat that could take everyone.

Now to get a bit further he needs to be able to motor a greater distance if wind drops and he has to make a tidal gate. i think he wants something a bit quicker on hull speed.

Norfolk Gypsy?

The only other recent boats I can think of which sort of fit the Shrimper mould, without getting to silly prices (like the Yarmouth 23) are the Norfolk Gypsy, and the Salterns Memory.
