Somewhile back I posted about our use of shower gels with added moisturisers and the resulting "lard" in the shower sump and pipework, thus causing horrendous cleaning problem.I am pleased we have now sorted the problem by using either ordinary cheapy Imperial Leather and one called "Simple" which SWMBO uses.Just a little tip but may save some of you probs.
 
Thanks, we were using lard, which makes us waterproof, but its a bugger to get out of your hair.

Does anyone know of a decent shower filter which doesnt need emptying/cleaning every other day?
The small Jabsco round one works, but has too small a filter area.
 
coconut oil, if its good for 80% of 2.5 billion it must be good for something.( Biodegradeable and renewable resource not hydrocarbon, watch your head) however must be changed every day or it stinks to high heaven.

Tesco 'Value' shower Gel...10p a bottle..I kid you not, and no I havn't tried it...but may do just to see how it does as washing up liquid /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes, I find the best filter is the no-filter filter. We shower quite a lot in our boat and I shed quite a lot (not quite bald yet though) but the pumps have never had a problem in 5 years. Those filters are such a nuisance - I'd rather fix a pump every few years than clean the filters every few days - though as I said the pumps have never complained.
 
Excuse my ignorance, but why would you put a filter on the shower drain. To catch dropped rings, etc, or to create a hair collection?
 
I have been washing my hair for about 10 yrs with Ecover washing up liquid. And the rest of me, actually. It's all natural stuff, biodegrades, mostly coconut oil, it might sound odd using something called a washing up liquid but surely better than putting petrochemicals on your head. Doesn't block anything up. Still got all my hair. Bit wild but it was anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]Usually suggested by the pump manufacturer to help stop their pumps from clogging up. Our aft shower pump was always failing due to bits of hair getting in the valves - and this was despite having a filter in the line. I changed the pump to an impellor type last year and have fewer problems.
 
We put a circle of that geen kitchen scrubber stuff into the plug hole of the shower. The pump will suck through this and most gunk gets trapped before it reaches the far less accessible pumpfilter. When green stuff gets clogged( every shower), just wash under tap and replace...Still have to clean shower pump filter but much less often.
