Shower drain Moody 29

I have just ordered a new teak grate for my Shower in a moody 29. The one that came with the boat was a bit rotten.
The shower drain, however, does not seem to be working. I tried a weak drain unblocker but to no avail so I have been trying to investigate where it is blocked. Unfortunately the square panel which is screwed into the plastic shower molding is stuck solid and I am likely to damage the whole shower molding if I try to remove it.
I have tried to explore where the drain pipe leads to and have so far managed to feed about 1.5m of wire before it will go no further.
Do shower drains normally just drain into the bilge? If so I was thinking of drilling another hole alongside the original drain, still in the square panel that is stuck. This would then drain any water into the bilge direct ( although not having access under the molding its hard to tell if there would be anything preventing this).
Any thoughts comments or experiences in this area would be helpful.

I don't know the M29 but there may be a shower drain pump? If so there is a filter in line which needs cleaning regularly.

It is very unlikely to drain into the bilge... grey water = nasty smells.

Usually they have a small rotary pump which becomes clogged with hair and then stops working.

Mine is fitted with a small manual bilge pump..not so 'push button' but much better.

Sometimes the drain is very small, you can rmove it with a hole cutter, much care needed without the centre guide !!!.
Then fit an oversize (doemstic) drain and repipe, we did this on our Seastream Ketch.

On my moody 29 the shower drain pump is in locker under the starboard side fore berth trust this helps

Hi,
I have just finished resealing the shower drain on my Moody 29. On mine the water is pumped out using an electrical pump fitted inside the hanging locker behind the heads. A filter unit that can get blocked is accessed through the round access hatch below the toilet bowl. The switch is fitted above the lockers.
If yours does not have an electrical pump and drains directly into the bilges it will do so through 2 half inch pipes the exits of which you will find if you lift the flooring in the main cabin near the cabin table. These can get blocked up with debris. Should be able to tell by blowing or wiring through.
I would certainly give it another go at lifting the base. Mine was sealed and screwed down with about 12 small screws and is nothing more than a square of plastic which should be easy to replicate if you damaged it taking it out. There are also 2 keel bolts under the tray which would be worth checking if they have been slopping around in water.

I don't know about the Moody, but my shower has the usual filter which we clear regularly and the pump still gets gunged up with - well - gunge. For a couple of years I was able to clear it by running very hot water through until the pump packed up last year and had to be replaced. My advice is to run clean hot water through fairly often.
