Re. your pic, is it my impression or did the boat follow a slightly snaky path?
Not sure if you followed that, but BartW has a similar problem when running on autopilot on his Canados.

Well, you can definitely get 580 ponies (and then some) out a 5 liters petrol engine, with either a blower or turbo(s).
But pretty sure by 502 Hot Rod actually meant cubic inches, i.e. a 8.2 liters big block.
Anyway, I'm also curious about how he got such higher power (Whipple, if I should guess?), and why.
In fact, frankly speaking, I struggle to see the point of a big block on a Searay 230, let alone tuning it for higher power....

Engine is a 502ci running 10 to 1 compression ratio, rectangle port heads, higher lift cam, high rise inlet and an 850cfm holley made 581hp on Jeff Bulls dyno but that was with 2 inch headers, the stock mercruiser risers are probably costing me a fair bit so in reality prob nearer 520hp or so in the boat

It was originally built for a drag racing Ford Pop that crashed on its 3rd run down the strip, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and salvaged for less than rebuilding my dead 454 would have cost

Yes, my bad.. I was thinking 302ci but was probably still focussing on 580hp.. From 8.2L it makes more sense getting a reliable 580hp output..

I had to sail over such a wake this week, it was really big, steep and just a little bit scary. Much more fun. Any pictures?

well, its not quite what you asked for... and the dinghy's in the way to really see the wake, so all things considered not even sure why I'm posting... but there's a bit of rock & roll going on here and certainly the wake I am producing is as big as you will get from a 26ft boat....

Ha! well of course Hardy did do a motor-sailer, very cute it was too!

but no, our Hardy is without stick and flappy attachments, and has a 240hp diesel instead.

Very pretty too, but not a planing hull I'm sure...I expect that at a little more than hull-speed in flat water, you're able to make your presence well-known among moorings!
