Show \'em up

Having been away all week - overnighting on the boat, I came in on Friday to find the new copy of MBM waiting for me. A quick skim identified a number of articles that I will sit down and read in detail. The best being the S23 v BMB contest. I couldnt resist a flick to the the end to see which won.

However there was something missing, and missing big time.

There were loads of pictures on the plane, from the front, from the back, from the side, even of the toilet but where was the picture with the Hood up ??

Maybe I'm the only person in the world that usually has the front part of my hood up most of the time. In summer it gives nice shade and in winter allows a little protection from the wind. Go on tell me I'm a closet Hard Top man perhaps, but when out at sea, at speed (no comments thanks Col !!) I often take it down to get that wind in my face.

Car magazines do it as well, with flash convertibles with no pictures of the top up. They do show 'em sometimes half up or "in motion" at the press of a button. Then I made the connection - Hugo !!! I bet he rides a 6000cc sports bike, once owned an MG B (not the GT!!) and drinks real ale. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Me I prefer Stella and eat quiche /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Great issue - must go now and read some more !!!!

INMHO little boats like that should not be helmed with the hoods up! Hoods act like sails! They should only be used for overnighting and a bit of sun cover at anchor, if thats what you want.
Come on Adrian, get a life! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: Show \'em up

Not something I do often, but there are times when that extra protection is nice, especially if cold and tired..saves hypothermia (which can happen even with shed loads of the right equipment on when you are not active for a long time, as when helming).

On a different note, took young kids out recently when drizzly with hood up. Young 8 year old was a little concerned about boats and boating - I figured with the hood fully up, it would feel enclosed and safer. Worked a treat, as we pottered around, then her older sister wanted to go faster so we did, then had two kids howling with glee.

Next day we were out in roughish conditions without hood as youngster now figured boating was fun(ish) and fell asleep while the rest of us were bouncing around

Re: Show \'em up

Great trip. Wonderful weather considering what everyone else seemed to experience , and sunburnt face. Usual mix of great moments, problems mechanical and otherwise. Fantastic sea conditions when we left Solent, got a bit bumpy when we left Lulworth. Some headed straight to Weymouth, a few of us went to Chesil Beach, but didn't run down as far as West Bay or Lyme Regis.

Run back today was far rougher round headlands, even though timed to minimise (sunbmarined twice to great applause from other boats), though there were some fantastic runs on swelly conditions that were a pure pleasure (well, to some <g>)

Sure someone will write it up in newsletter, so not for me to disclose too much .
