Should marinas provide more than a rotting piece of wood for the money you pay?

I don't even get a shoe cleaning service, choice of morning papers or the obligatory trouser press.
Having said that we do get piped music to the shower facilities. I suppose that helps when you have spent 3 hours walking through the rain to get there only to find there is six people waiting and no hot water.

Wait till you get to Porto Cervo and uniformed employees take your mooring lines. Mind you, 25 years ago it cost £50 a night for a 35 footer and we were stuck there by a F9. The showers though were free.

You were allowed in in a 35 footer? About 20 years ago we were in a 40 footer and seeking refuge from a 40 knot afternoon. "Too small" to be allowed into the marina proper, we were told, but there was a side creek with a wobbly pontoon to which we were permitted to tie our strings for a paltry £70 per night. So we walked round to where the BIG mobos were berthed (with the aid of uniformed employees of, according to SWMBO, amazing sexual attractiveness). Such skill with the strings...
