Should I take her up or down?

Which way from Staines should Gavi go?

... from Staines.

I have booked off the w/c 23 August. We bought Ex Libris because of her sea credentials and we've now braved London, so I am not scared about that. I have also helmed a bigger boat to Ramsgate (I took a 100ft into there!!! yay!!!), yet I enjoyed the trip to Byron's a year or two ago. What do we do?

Let's look at this.

1. Down to the Medway and enjoy using the sea capabilities of the boat

2. Up the river to enjoy the quieter bits of The Thames (and have more booze)

No brainer really!!

I'd vote up; a bit of peace and quiet, and the Wallingford beer and blues festival over the August B/H

Go down to the Mudway early next season over a weekend or two, and find somewhere to keep her for a few long weekends exploring!

Depends largely on whether you and 'er indoors want to enjoy a pleasant stress free week or are more interested in being macho rufty tufty seafarers.

Much less vulnerable to the vagaries of the weather if you go up stream with plenty of watering holes, whereas bad weather downstream can significantly impact on both progress and relaxation.

Your call.

Ha,ha

A.will the narrow boaters have nicked all the moorings.
B,will there be any water.
C,will that blimming disco boat go past just after I go to bed and then have to lay awake knowing it will be back in about an hour.
D,will I get cornered by a forumite wanting to raft up,drink all my decent beer in exchange for his cheap Aldi lager and go on all night about gel coat or outdrives.
E,have to work a lock ...all alone or worse with 10 other boats sitting there watching me and doing bugger all to assist.

Stay put, spend the fuel budget on even more booze? I like the sound of Wallingford but, iffy engine permitting, want to be in London that weekend to see my locomotive appear in The Railway Children.

Decisions, decisions!

Thread drift.... but YOUR loco?
