Should I move from Windsor to Harleyford?

The 'budget' thing doesn't come into it, as both moorings are the same sort of cost are they not!?

Are we talking about T&K moorings compared with Harleyford or the different moorings at Harleyford alone? If it's just Harleyford, then unfortunately not http://www.harleyford.co.uk/pdf/2012ScheduleofCharges2.pdf

All we were offered were the Duck Pond or the Islands as "seasonal moorings" with no electric. If we'd have gone annual then yes, we could have had moorings elsewhere with electric and the minimum boat size may have been waived.

Each to their own but we prefer the upper Thames. Did also consider Saxon Moorings but we really don't like the river between say PH and Marlow - too busy, crowded moorings around Windsor, bottlenecks at Boveney and, to a lesser extent, Bray and Boulters.

Harleyford is much the same as Bray or Windsor money wise.

Harleyford, in the marina, is the same price for us but significantly more on the river bank. I still remain concerned that we may upset the locals with dog and kids though. Are there any families at Bray? I think I met Honeymommy on Sunday but didn't twig until the journey home!
One possible option is to moor on the river where I work

Positives -free Negatives - lack of security and rise/fall of the river in the winter

I'm on a riverbank mooring and you have to be careful with river level and security.

For the level, I have the boat moored using a complicated arrangement of lazy lines, so arranged that I only have to adjust one line to compensate for river levels. I had to install my own bankside rings to make it work though, which may be an issue for you?

You would have to visit the boat after rain to check and adjust, although you can leave the lines loose enough to compensate, possibly poor boatmanship though?

Security (touch wood) has yet to be an issue for me here, but if you don't know how to get to the riverbank from the road here it is not obvious, so there tends to be no opportunist crime. That said, I did install an ear splittingly loud alarm anyway.

I don't know where you're thinking of mooring, so can't really comment in your case...

I suppose, as you have raised the issue it depends exactly what your kids and dog are like.
We have always cruised the river before kids, with kids and now without kids.
To give you some idea, when young our two boys were re-named by a neighbour as 'seek and destroy'.:D
The river is all the better for families. All welcome; except the great unwashed of course.:)

I like "seek and destroy" ours are called the "domestic terrorists" by my mother in law. :)
In truth they are pretty good and we are very aware of the neighbours hence the post! The dog is the best behaved of the lot of us!

In which case choose as you please. The noise of kids enjoying themselves is part of the rivers future and what the river should be about. Noise and fumes from generators/engines when moored, well that's another matter !

Nobody minds kids and Dogs, as long as they behave within a reasonable range of normal.

Kids playing, no problemo, Dogs having a bit of a 'Dog moment' also fine.

It's when Dogs start crapping all over the place, biting people and kids being little thugs that it all goes wrong!

Bray has plenty of Dogs, and a few kids. Most are embraced (not literally in the case of the kids) in a good way :)
