Should I grease my shaft? VB = very boaty

I was looking at where the shaft meets the sterngland etc and wondered whether this should be greased in order to further inhibit water and to keep the thing lubricated?

The Sterngland does this for you providing that it has fairly new stuff in it and is correctly tightened.

Just thought some extra grease might help as I am determined to now have dryer bilges. Glands repacked some 30 hrs ago so should be fine and were tightened agin recently.

If you are intending to use it how I imagine (slopping Grease all over the shaft in the Stern gland) then won't it all just come flying off?
