Two elder girls are getting less enthusiastic about sailing and really we''ll be sailing mainly as a couple with youngest daughter most of the time.. should I flog the 331 and get something smaller like a Sadler 29 ... what do you think?

Well, you know what I\'m going to say, don\'t you...

...

...Now...

...

...You can get a real boat.

Made of wood. properly, with a proper keel, and all that.

Take a look at Twisters and East Anglians, and go from there.

Find out what you have been missing!

I'd downsize a lot further or stay where you are - is there enough of a financial or handling difference between a 29 and a 31 footer?

Down at the 20-25 foot level you've whole different classes of boat for speed or trailerability or quirkiness and cheapness to buy and run. When you try hoisting the main you'll fall around laughing after it reaches the top when you've only just started pulling.

Alas you'll also start finding F6s exciting again.

Erm .. mines is a 34 footer .. and I'd get a £20K cash injection .. I'd probably go for the bilge keeler to enlarge the cruising options

Re: Well, you know what I\'m going to say, don\'t you...

The Twister seems to be a little lacking in internal space compared to the Sadler

We were thinking of getting a bigger boat until we had a weekend on ours without the kids. Sudenly we had a bigger boat. As they are 13 and 14 now we shouldn't have long to wait until they find us completely unbearable.

You won't go wrong with a Sadler 29.

Re: Well, you know what I\'m going to say, don\'t you...

I've sailed both a Twister and a Sadler 29. Both excellent sails.

Ah well, in that case, I have the answer...

What you need is a North Sea 24.

Big sister of Twister, also available in Tupperware as the Rustler 31.

Jimi only you can answer this, if you go down a size will it limit what or change what you can do now.
If you decide to take Friends out will there be enough room, and will you be happy single handing a boat you do not know as well to start with, and just think of the cost of getting another boat just right.

But then there is the fun of a new toy, getting it just how you want it. and may be it has some bits that are better than you present boat.

as I said only you can answer your question.

If you downsize, will you go for a holding tank again?

If you\'re looking for an MAB to downsize to....

What about the Elizabethan 30? I'd recommend the 29, but if you find the Twister cramped then you'll not like it. The David Thomas designed 30 is closer internally to a modern 30 footer, such as the Sadler, goes really well and looks nice. Ask James Jermain.

Jimi,

just a thought...some time ago I was given some advice about houses, which may be applicable to a boat. I was advised that, as & when the sprogs leave home, not to rush into downsizing the house, as you limit the ability of the family to get together in the future, and so the family grows apart. I know it's not quite the same with a boat, but in the future the girls may want to join you, with partners etc in tow. So perhaps hold off on the decision for a while.

On the other hand, releasing a wodge of dosh does sound tempting... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lynn and I expressly bought the two cabin (no bunks in the saloon either), so that we could sleep in the one cabin, and use the other as a dressing room, or if we have a couple of friends onboard for the weekend. We have comfortably not filled all the available accomodation and it still feels roomy.
The kids(apart from Daughter) are not in the slightest interested. Good.
You will only squander the 20k on frippery, and then where will you be?
