I've seen other stock at a large chandlery "not a million miles from Port Solent" looking distinctly second hand. Best to see before you buy, though not an opton mail order!
Yes, bought on plastic, but I've had it for over 7 days as it's arrival coincided with going on holiday and I was awaiting a response from the manufacturer - I didn't know if it was perhaps normal to not have the battery fitted in the box.
As we read it, the distributor has removed the factory installed battery for its own purposes and tossed in a battery of lesser life - you presume to move on its dating supply of batteries?
That's what I presume has happened, yes. The supplied battery was an official McMurdo 'battery replacement kit' including replacement screw, O ring seals and instructions. The original screw and O rings seals from the complete unit as it left the manufacturer were loose rattling around in the box.
Distributor was Marine Super Store.
The manufacturer said:
"Units should be sold with battery life of approx 5 years.
The batteries are normally secured in the factory before despatch.
Please contact your supplier regarding this complaint. They should be
able to answer your concerns."
Could it be that there is a battery fitted and the one lose in the box found it's way in there somehow.
No, not possible.
So, as you can see, the manufacturer wasn't exactly outraged by this behaviour. In the first instance, due to the 7 days having well ellapsed, I'll write to MSS and see where we go from there. Will let you know the outcome.
Stop buggering about. Send it back as not supplied as fit for purpose.
The seven(?) days malarkey re distance selling is if you want to change your mind about the purchase. Your unit as supplied is crap - different scenario.
