Should battery charger be run continuously?

I started to reply at post 3, got pulled away on a number of jobs, and hit submit many posts later, isn't work a pain :(

Retire and cruise, easy :)
I think with your knowledge and helping out on a few boats you would get enough free beer. What else do you need :)

My Victron charger has been on pretty much constantly for the past five years (AGM Lifeline batteries). I don't like to switch the charger on/off frequently as this initiates a bulk/absorption/float charging cycle for no good reason. The charger floats the batteries at a constant 13.2v.

Having a Victron myself I don't like to leave it on being away from the boat as I noticed that even in float mode it becomes quite warm (not hot though). Although the print on the charger states is designed for continuous use, I feel safer not having it switched on all the time. Electronics are know to go wrong (fire hazard).
Also I have the feeling it adds up to my electricity bill at an annoying rate.

Cheers.
