I had the boat lifted at Shotley yesterday for a summer scrub (£113) was there two nights and they only charged for one. The motivation was to cure the loud rattling when motoring (having long since resigned myself to the clicking of the cutter when sailing). I was convinced the shaft anode had come loose but it hadn't.
There was lots of looseness in the Stripper and I asked a passing shotley person (who turned out to be the acting manager) if he knew anything about them. He said he certainly did and that the bearings were shot. He wandered off and came back with a service kit that included bearings, sprung steel jaws and bolts - £18 + Vat
Some of the allen keys heads were rounded off so I asked him if there was an engineer who could spare time to help. He wandered off and came back with a drill and drilled off the heads. Between us we cleaned the bits up and he showed me how to reassemble it and line it up with the prop. He did all the work. £36 + vat for the labour - no charge for the hour and a half in the slings. Instant help no problem. How good is that?
No more rattling - no more clicking - clean bottom

Clacton air show on the way back - dodged the big winds - complete result. Thanks Shotley - I'll be back if I need anything done.
