I had the boat lifted at Shotley yesterday for a summer scrub (£113) was there two nights and they only charged for one. The motivation was to cure the loud rattling when motoring (having long since resigned myself to the clicking of the cutter when sailing). I was convinced the shaft anode had come loose but it hadn't.

There was lots of looseness in the Stripper and I asked a passing shotley person (who turned out to be the acting manager) if he knew anything about them. He said he certainly did and that the bearings were shot. He wandered off and came back with a service kit that included bearings, sprung steel jaws and bolts - £18 + Vat:) Some of the allen keys heads were rounded off so I asked him if there was an engineer who could spare time to help. He wandered off and came back with a drill and drilled off the heads. Between us we cleaned the bits up and he showed me how to reassemble it and line it up with the prop. He did all the work. £36 + vat for the labour - no charge for the hour and a half in the slings. Instant help no problem. How good is that?:)

No more rattling - no more clicking - clean bottom:):)

Clacton air show on the way back - dodged the big winds - complete result. Thanks Shotley - I'll be back if I need anything done.

I like Shotley. I had a summer scrub there once in the middle of a holiday. Thought of the idea as i was a lousy day and the girls headed off by bus to Ipswich for therapy. They were charming and did everything possible to help sort out a couple of bits. Nice to see its still the same. Counteracts the gloom from being treated badly by an online chandlery who have lied to me.

I went into Shotley a week ago for a night. I found the staff very pleasant and helpful, so much so I enquired about keeping the boat there next season.

You appear to be the possessor of a fabled pair of golden testes.

Well done to Shotley for delivering a top retail experience to our poor pensioners.

They do much the same for our Forum shindigs.

Question is, why were you prepared to put up with the clicking?

Golden whatsits aside - I knew the clicking was caused because one of the sprung jaws was bent following some action no doubt. I didn't get round to fixing it (wasn't sure how to) when the boat came out for a few days in the spring. I didn't know they did a service kit:o Silly old me - I forgot to ask you:rolleyes:

Glad they treated you so well.

We love being berthed there. Its got a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, and the staff are top notch. We had a BBQ on our aisle earlier this summer, and several of the staff came along for a drink and a natter.... a different attitude to many places we've visited.

Motoring cone or clicking

Now that Sabre is no longer emitting dolphin likes clicks as you motor along you really need to deploy your motoring cone! ;-)

Bonsella zoomed up to Clacton yesterday behind the spinnaker all the way from Bradwell to Clacton pier. We then went and explored the wind farm a little before anchoring off the beach to watch the airshow. We left at 1530 and were back at Bradwell at 1815 after a real stonking sail although it did get rather wet. I was sailing with an experienced rough weather sailor and not my wife or it would have been the end of sailing, boat ownership and probably a marriage! What a great day to sail!

I echo Morgana's post.

I needed an urgent issue resolving before we went away for for 2 weeks on the boat. Despite being very busy (must be all these summer scrubs!) they fitted the work in and had our craft back to us on time.
