Ok, I've been unfaithful to Beyond Reason and sailed with other people on their boats this year. But I have also set out on Beyond Reason on several occasions with a view to going to the Deben, or to Bradwell, or wherever. So far I haven't got any further than Shotley.

First it was steam coming out of the exhaust along with the water. After much tinkering and adjusting and tightening up and pumping and so on, I finally found a clogged up heat exchanger. Having cleaned it and re-assembled it, no more steam coming out of exhaust so everything must be OK. Mustn't it?

Last weekend still didn't get any further than Shotley. Load of water coming out of exhaust, no steam, but very disappointing forward propulsion. Could only manage 2 knots on the entrance to Shotley lock.

Following day, returned to SYH, laid down on the finger pontoon in an attempt to examine the prop.

Now, I'm no expert, but I think the metre and a half of rope we cut away from the prop might have had something to do with it.

Have booked lift and scrub for this week and am hoping Beyond Reason will be back to normal now. Might even manage to get all the way to Stone Point for the Pirates Weekend. Otherwise, it'll be Shotley again.

Move the boat to Shotley then you will get to either Landguard Point, Wrabness or Levington. 3 choices. Spoiled you are!
