Short term mooring Cephalonia or Zakinthos

I know that this is a long shot, but does anyone know of a short term mooring possibility on either of these islands which is reasonably secure and not too expensive? I need to leave our boat (Westerly Corsair) for about eight weeks in July and August, preferably afloat. I know that there are possibilities on Levkas and the mainland, but either of these two islands would be really convenient for us.

I don't know Zakinthos at all. I cannot think of anywhere on Kefalonia that you could safely leave a boat at that time of year, certainly not at anchor! Why would Zante or Kef be better? I think you would be better leaving the boat at Vlikho and paying a minder. You can still get to Kefalonia (Fiskardo) by ferry from Nidri if you need to.

Agreed - you must have a good minder in a place safe from a blow (northerly at this time of year). Vliho Yacht Club is the place to go - uterly trustworthy and good engineers and people to do work on your boat if needed.

I also cannot think of anywhere suitable WITH a trusted minder in Zac or Cef

Zakynthos (Zante) has nowhere safe enough for what you want s my advice would be to forget that. Agia Eufemia where Davy S lives has only one solid mooring which was laid by a Brit skippered charter boat operator a few years back but you would be having the constant to-ing and fro-ing on both sides of day visitors, charterers and flotillas. The months you mention also see the invasion by the floating holidaymakers from a certain latin country who are not known for their respect of others' property! Also, when the wind gets up in that harbour, especially from the east, it is not a place you would want to stay.

The small marina at Sami has some very sheltered berths but you would need to get yourself a guaredian there. Ring the "Captain Correlli's" taverna (NOT the one of the same name in Ag Ef btw) they speak good english and could advise you.

On Levkada (Levkas) apart from the marina, (which we use F.o.C. being bertholders at the sister marina on Corfu) there is, as Chris Robb has said, Vlikho which although very run down is well into a large inlet. You could also drive there from the channel ports since traversing Albania is reasonably straightforward these days, although I still prefer the Trieste to Igoumenitsa ferry.

There are some tailed moorings in Spartahori on Meganissi now right at the top of the bay but I have no info re contacts or costs. Pretty well all of the other mooring sites cater primarily for over-nighting.

We have stayed at Lixouri, about three years ago now. At the time we could berth alongside and for much of the three or four days we were there we were the only boat. There were no problems at all, although as common with many Greek ports, the road was quite close by. It's a huge harbour with no depth problems that we encountered. I checked it on Google Earth a few minutes ago, showing no more than four boats 38.11'36"/20.26'39". A bar/taverna opposite was very friendly and might well keep an eye on your boat for you. There is a small marina to the north, seemed full to us, but you might find someone there to help out.

Thanks everyone. Much as I thought. It was just that we have a daughter wanting to use the boat, but needs to be near an airport since she only has a few days. Looks like we shall go back to Corfu.....

Lots of very inexperienced charterers and flotillas Bob. Also when the wind blows in there it can be a bit messy. Fine if you're staying with the boat but I wouldn't like to leave a boat anywhere in Greece where it's safety depended upon being lucky in n ot having one's anchor trawled up. The OP could end up with a disaster and not know about it. He needs either permanent ground tackle or to be alongside.

Hi,Grafozz was helpful to me last year for me when looking to pick up crew on Cephalonia ,the harbour near the airport was ideal for us.I will be using it again to pick up again later this year . - grafozz it was nice to meet you on the quay as well!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but wondering if anything has changed for 2019?
We are relatively new to Ionian and wonder if there is anywhere in Cephalonia/Zakinthos where we can safely leave our 45ft, 2m draft monohull for all of August? We would like to return to Edinburgh for the month, using Jet2 direct flights from Cephalonia.
Last year we did the northern Ionian and the yacht went ashore at Ionian Marine in Preveza for August. We travelled to Scotland via bus to Athens - pita. This year we want to explore south of Preveza. Any suggestions for 2019 August mooring and UK travel from southern Ionian?

None of the mentioned island has a "marina", it's indeed a pity!

You might find somebody who could look after your boat while you leave it in the derelict marina of Cephalonia. However, I don't think Agia Pelagia is an option for such a long time, especially unattended.

In the main harbour of Zakynthos, there is a guy offering gardiennage services. It's called yachting club Zakynthos or something like that. In the end, I always went back to Preveza when leaving the boat for a month or so.

Has anything come of the Vasiliki marina? There is a ferry from there I believe to cephalonia so that you can use the airpflights there.

I would urge you not to leave it anywhere on an anchor even if under guadianage. Only on lazy lines would I consider leaving my boat.
I would personally go back to Prevesa yards or perhaps Vliho bay.

Remember that there is also uncertainty over whether the Cruising tax (TEPAI) will come in this year on 2nd April. At the moment it look like the yacht will have to be out of the Water and out of Use to not pay the monthly charge. This is a ridiculous situation that they are still arguing this with only 2 months to go till April 2nd.

A bit of an update regarding Ferries, at the moment from Kefalonia you can get to Vassiliki, Nidri, Ithaki, Patras, Astakos and Kylini , there is rumoured to be a new connection between Sami and Messolongi starting in May, it could be of use to folks as another transport/flight route.
