Short report of BH / Trip to Yarmouth in Mitchell 31

+1

I've been a sailyboat person all my life - dinghies, racing, cruising, square rig, gaff rig... But boats like yours, and the Seaward range which I spent a while ogling in Cowes the other week, I'm finding very very appealing :)

As someone brought up to believe that "stinkpots" were invariably ruinously expensive to go anywhere in due to diesel costs, do you mind if I ask what sort of fuel consumption you typically get?

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Pete

Thanks for the comments, and always happy to share info, in fact I filled up on Monday as I like to keep the fuel tank topped up but I always work out my fuel consumption. Currently achieving (over the last 130 miles)
13.75 LPH or 3.02 gallons per hour, 2.4mpg. I have been cruising at 12 knots but with some faster running included in the last 130 miles. The boat is still quite new to me having only got her mid January, previous owner said he tended to cruise at 2000rpm acheiving 10knots, I cruise at 2100rpm at 12 knots as the boat seems to run better through the water and causes a lot less wash so I think its a happier speed, however he averaged 10LPH.

so 13.75 lph works out to £11.50 per hour, not expensive in my book..

I like your boat a lot, sounds we are achieving similar speed and fuel figures, I try to plan all trips now re tidal flow as it makes such a difference, it's just to gain some free speed

She goes to all that trouble assembling your breakfast and you sit there reading a book! Nice pics though :encouragement:

Your boat looks fantastic. Great job with the polish and wax! Loved the shots of the compass, they were some serious angles, so how did your crew respond?

Both busy reading.... Seating in the wheelhouse very comfortable and both proped up nicely behind a table and those roll angles occur smoothly as we were just traversing straight across the direction of the waves and wind. Both have total faith in boat
