Friend is on his way back from South Coast to East Coast, alternator has failed but is doing day hops between marinas and charging overnight. Except that now he’s dropped the shorepower connector in the water and it just trips out the shorepower supply. We need to dismantle the connector to dry it out but can’t work how:

Can anyone help?

You undo the screws in the face of the plug. The white nylon bit then pulls out the yellow bit. You need to push the flex through the other end to help the flex through.

The above is from memory. I replaced the type you have, with a Ratio unit. Yours is a Marinco type, very prone to hot spots and scorching inside.

The instructions state that if wet from sea water, wash in fresh water, then blow dry. Images in the manual below.

Undo all the screws you can see, there may be a cable clamp on the other end.

Good choice (y)

These "American " type plugs cause more boat fires than anything else. They are rubbish. I would change these to the"commando" type of connectors that are much more reliable. How do I know - they used to use these tye of connectors for computer systems - we where forever chaning these because of the poor internal connection that once they get dirty, the resistance goes up and the plugs start to melt and then.................
