What is the highest wattage that can be drawn from pontoon sockets? I plan to use a 2000w fan heater, which I presume will be O.K. Sorry if this question seems naive to you electro-whizzes out there but two things particularly faze me - electricity and DNA, and the latter isn't really an issue on board.

I tend to trip my boat RCD at 3Kw if that helps

[/ QUOTE ] The RCD should not trip. It is there to protect you from electocution if you happened to touch a live wire and something earthed or to trip if a piece of equipment developed an earth fault.

What should trip if you exceed its set current (or power) is the circuit breaker. That being there to perform the same function that a fuse would.

mmm As I found our yesterday - not a right lot when the 32A socket is full of water!!!!!

Depends on the supplier really - ideally the smaller (and most common blue 3 pin connectors) are for 16 Amp (approx 4 KW)and the larger ones are 32 Amp (approx 8KW)

Some of the french guest harbours trip at 6

The 16A socket we connected to at Cuxhaven kept on tripping as soon as we connected. We found that it was set to 2A, and even the initial surge on our charger is higher than that on its own. Fortunately some of the breakers were 10A, and we were able to change.

The size of the socket doesn't necessarily tell you how much current you can draw.
