Still doesnt do across the phases.

I think I'm loosing the will to live so I will probably just buy the simple connector plug from Maplin here http://www.maplin.co.uk/kewcheck-r2-socket-test-connector-476447 and then buy myself some new test leads at the same time.

Maybe, it says that it checks voltage high and voltage low. I wonder.

Still think I'll stick to something simple and continue to use my multimeter but with a better connecting device.

OK, now I get it, I have sent you an email for a 240v test cct, sorry I should have picked up on the three phase issue, I know you have had some painful experience of this. Will give it some further thought!

For anyone else interested something like the following, but it would be a good idea to fuse all three incoming legs! You could use a 10ma RCD and set R accordingly, most marina RCD's I expect are 30ma or above, no problem having two in line, many boats have them fitted anyway.
