We had a power cut at marina. Unfortunately when this happened the heaters failed to come back on as the RCD on board needed re-setting. Any ideas how we could get a warning say by text to indicate we have had a power cut? Similar to an intruder alarm system maybe? I could then travel to marina to re-set RCD.
Thanks.

We use one of these: http://www.tekview-solutions.com/thermotxt.php. Also operates as a thermostat as well as alerting you to power loss. Paid about £100.00 three years ago - but I've heard copies can be had for much less.

Or search for "12v GSM alarm" on ebay.

Lots to choose from, most will alert you to loss of power, bilge pump activation as well as door and movement alarm detection.
Very cheap now, fully functioning around £50.
Most also have a relay activation so you can switch things on remotely e.g. heater or lights etc.

I bought one about a year ago and it's been very good.
Has alerted me to power failure several times, for different reasons but always useful to know.

Bozlite and Trundlebug. Thanks for help. I will look into it now. Maybe I can find something to do everything in one go. Alarm for power failure, movement, doors, temp? Not sure how the relay activation will work remotely may need a technician for that.

There is also another version from rfs solutions.. well ,there would be if they had any stock ! And they have no idea when they will, but looks like the same thing for £60

Just read the instructions when you've bought it. Use of relay (and all the functions really) is optional anyway, you don't have to use all or any of them.

All functions programmable by mobile phone

There was a recent thread on this. Many units available. I use www.yacht-sentinel.com. I've had several on several boats and like them

Yacht Sentinel looks great product, but I've not had the best experience trying to buy one. I placed an order via their Amazon online shop on 2nd Dec, allowing what I thought was plenty of time for pre-Christmas delivery. I received no order update for 10 days, so I tried calling the UK number listed on the www.yacht-sentinel.com website, it fails to connect with 'this account number is not valid' message.

I tried to contact seller via Amazon, no response after several days. Today I contacted Amazon and requested cancellation of order, shame as it seemed a good product.

Thanks to everyone for pointing me in right direction. Need to do a bit of homework now. Hope you get delivery soon Anders it seems a good product on their site.

That isn't good - sorry to hear that. I've spoken to emailed the MD/owner (Chris Glasow) many times over the years and tbh have sometimes had a few delays due to apparent disorganised-ness at their end, but I've never held it against them because it's a micro company and he is a nice guy and tries hard, and everything is ok in the end!. Just email him - firstname.lastname@ the company url and he picks up email on his iPhone.

Thanks John, I'll try an email direct to Chris. It looks a great product, so I was somewhat disheartened when order didn't happen.

Thanks again to everybody for pointing me in right direction. In the end we purchased this one http://www.ultrasecuredirect.com/ac...1iBm17o8CcPpb3nPAPo9AJjXAedBqtel-kaAvv38P8HAQ

It is working fine for what we need. May upgrade to the more expensive type later after seeing how we go with this one. Not sure how we can get the power to reset without going to boat anyway after alarm text. We have a Fairline Squadron 42 and it needs the blue button on dash pressing to restall AC power to sockets? May need a more technical mind to sort it out how to do it remotely from home. I am sure there must be a way.
Thanks again.

Your RCD trip problem - are you using a RCD socket ?

We were using these for a machine application to power a Router. If there was a power cut the trip required a manual reset.

Cure is to fit a standard power socket and if your boat does not already have one fit an RCD breaker on the incoming power supply. This way everything on board is protected and they don't trip on loss of power.

Does anyone know how to make an active 3G Router send a text message or email, say on activation of a relay ?

Not sure how it all works to be honest. The shore power is indicated as been available on dash. You then press a blue button which gives shore power to the switch board under the dash. The switch board as all the separate switches for say the grill, sockets,tv etc. When the shore power fails you need to press the blue button again, so guess it may be a RCD breaker itself. Its not a big deal now we are getting warning of power cut. but means a 30 mile round journey to reset. May need to get a lekky to have a look to see if we can get around it some how,to save having to reset blue button. Just thought someone with similar Fairline may have had same problem.
Cheers
