It is well known writers don't read

[/ QUOTE ] I was assuming that you were an engineer. Many apologies for that /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

That is a dangerous method of plugging in, always plug in at the boat first, if dropped on way to shore socket, wet cable only, but other way round !! who knows who might be killed.

[/ QUOTE ] Not really. Walking up a field with a cable reel paying out the cable as I go. Hardly likely to drop it out of a wheel barrow. Would not be using it on a wet day. Supply protected with an RCD. Does not plug in at the boat end anyway it's just an extension cable that I plug my power tools into. No more dangerous, less so in fact, than trailing a power cable round the garden behind the lawn mower, strimmer, hedge cutter, or what ever. Would not work the other way, the plug is on the free cable end and the socket is on the reel.
Any way it's not live until I walk back and switch the power on.

Many thank to everyone for so much great advice, will take note and follow it.
Many thanks
