I rather prefer it to braid-on-braid ropes but do admit that octo-plait is excellent and probably even better than 3-strand for mooring and anchoring. However for some reason I can't fathom it seems that octo-plait poly[rop ropes like seasteel - which are used for mooring ropes by probably the majority of commercial vessels - is only available in huge sizes, iirc 32mm dia being the smallest. I really want to use about 25mm for my mooring strop but can't find any! 32 mm doesn't really suit my cleats.

Back to braid-on-braid: I don't like it for mooring lines because it's difficult to splice and once spliced one has no means to inspect the splice: it could be just hanging on with little or no integrity, or perfectly sound, but how can one tell?
