If you get a cheapy Garmin don't go for the basic Model 12 - it works on 6 volts rather than 12 and makes it more difficult for wiring it up to work with plotters etc.

The 12XL is a bit more money but 12v.

So far everyones recommending The 12XL. So i think that will be the one too go for.

It is amazing though, That there is so much expensive gear out there to chose from,and almost everyone suggests the same cheap one. GREAT.

Don't get too thankfull too soon. Once you move off the lochs and start doing real sea boating,if you take to that sort of boating, you'll soon want something a bit more advanced. You can always sell the 12XL on ebay for a good price if you decide to upgrade

That is my plan, To move into the Clyde, I was wondering if i should go for the 12XL, or maybe something like the 72 or 76, instead?
