just returned from a months cruise of scotland in my hurley 22
used the mariner6 outboard for a total of 12 hours,on the last day it started to give me high voltage shocks through the twist grip.had to insulate the throttle with wads of dry clothe to be able to touch it.have looked for obvious signs of shorting around coils and plugs to no avail, any ideas......

If the insulation on the coils is Ok, then I would check the charging socket/regulator if it has one, if not then suspect the stop switch if it has one. If that is OK, then it could be the charging coils under the flywheel making contact with the flywheel, but I'd expect it to run rough if you are losing power from the ignition system.

I would think it is HT by the sound of it. Although I agree it may run rough. If you have the chance, you could try running it in the dark. Way back I used to work on racing cars and an ex-formula one mechanic told me this trick. If possible I always used to run the car in the dark. 4 or 5 times I found some form of tracking.
