Prices for all moorings/pontoons and even anchoring have quintuppled over the past 2 days.
Anyone considering moving their boat up to Scotland - think again and stay where its cheaper in Lymington or Hamble
The midgies have also been mating with sparrows recently and can really give you a nasty bite now - and they're deadly poisoned.
The forecast for the next 5 years is gale force rain and the icecap is looking to be made permanent from next May
Hope this helps

I just want them to keep going past Strangford. The forecast here is even worse, and we have whirlpools and sea-monsters too. (Real ones.)

Re: Whirlpools and Sea-monsters

errr hate to say this but we have the mother and father of whirlpools plus several of their off-spring and then of course there is Nessie who is now thought to eat glassfibre as a dietry aid and is doing so well now that there are now several younguns who are terrorising glass fibre yachts from Fort William to Portree..

Hence I would advise the adventurous yachties from the South Coast sticking at Strangford Lough as this will probably be as much as their nerves (and their glassfibre) will take.

If the midges are mating with sparrows, then the midges must be getting smaller! Probably shrunk in the continuous rain up there.

Mind you, none of this is news. News is when man bites dog, not the other way round. News is a Scot saying "welcome price rises" not "shock, horror "

Re: Midges

mmm they may be small but there are more of them ... and they have become even more voracious.. they are driving the deer into a frenzy and you risk being stampeded by midge enraged heards if you set foot ashore..

I'm sure you must be right, my brother-in-law has just sold or is selling, (not sure which), his little place at the end of Loch Ness, just on the left at Ft. Augustus as you enter the canal.

Re:Returned from Scotland on Saturday

What's cheap then? Diesel at 36p Ltr. Marina charges for visitors not unlike the south with poorer facilities. I think Ardfern or Craobh might be a little cheaper for residents than the south but it's a long way from anywhere to get to them.

As to the weather, well there's a lot of it. Midges not too bad in Sept.

It's a brilliant cruising area for the hardy but it's not cheap.
