Anyone able to offer advice on shipping a used 3.5hp 4 stroke outboard to Greece (Preveza)? I’ll empty the gearbox oil and fuel tanks but do I need to pack it securely or will it be ok encased in a couple of sailbags? But most importantly who (which courier firms) will take the blooming thing! ?

Pack it into a cardboard, tri-wall crate with a scrap wood supports to stop it sloping about. I don't know of any international carrier that would accept it wrapped in a couple of sailbags. Alternatively knock something up from a couple of old pallets and some WBP, but it will up the weight considerably. You will need to drain all fluids.

You might be able to scrounge a delivery crate from a Dealer.

Fed ex will ship to Greece but i do not know the cost, if I may offer a little advice, which ever courier you use, make sure that you know in advance where the parcel is going to be delivered to, if it is delivered to Greece and another courier takes over, that is where the problems start, we had some seats delivered for a powerboat, they never arrived, we found out that a Greek company had held the seats for three weeks, claiming that they could not find the address to deliver to, even though they had our telephone number, it was only when i threatened them with legal action that they responded, just something to be aware of.

There are two guys that do a monthly van run to the UK from lefkas , I would get in touch with one of them .
Sorry haven't any contact detail but you find one on the friends of Lefkas FB page the other ( stiff nipples no I not joking ) if you ask for details on FB someone will have them .

I have a dinghy going to Lefkas with "man with van" in the beginning of January. Rather than post the email address on the open forum, I can send you the address if you PM me. I believe that there is room still in the van for more goods.

We shipped 2 full pallet crates to Germany in 2017, including an outboard. Regulations regarding flammable fluids in cargo on road vehicles are very strict. You might be required to prove it is totally empty? Otherwise the load was collected by a UK carrier then transferred to the international truck at Harwich. No customs issues as it was all personal boat gear, not for sale. We were greatly relieved to see the forklift deliver the crates to the pontoon at Laboe at the other end!
