My son was on board this ship carrying out sea trials after a major refit. Finished his work and needed to get off with another engineer.
He phoned to ask if I was up for it and could I bring out some spare electronic bits at the same time. How could I say No.!!!!!!

A**se nipped up a bit when going along side it has to be said. [image]http://

The things parents will do for their kids! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If he's going to start doing this regularly, you might want to consider a rib

That will get you hooked up to him quickly, no matter which ship he's on. I'd expect customs to pay extra special attention to you though each time you arrive back! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hello Brendon
you're right about the customs, they did take a great interest in the rib and arrested it. That aside, it was a bit of a challenge going alongside the Vestfonn. Photographs do not do justice to the way the sea behaves. The conditions at the time were not posing a problem but the photograph indicates a smooth sea when in fact there was quite a swell coming out of the north east.

I just realised you are actually on board Brigid Mary /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Which makes the transfer even more interesting. perhaps you should post a pic of her as well so that people understand the added difficulty.

I see a discussion coming.....when the PUB reopens /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Did this a lot when I was in the Navy. Anything with a solid hull was always risky - ribs much better for the job. I remember picking someone up of a warship in Belfast Lough in conditions similar to those you describe. Thought it would be fine untill we tried to get alongside - we were in a GRP motor boat and boy did it get a bashing!!
