HI,
I recently came across a brokerage in America who sell boats which are in need of work. These boats vary from Flybridge cruisers at $2000 to 26' powerboats in need of interior refurbishment many only 20 years old for less than $1500. This is because boats are like Ford cars over here so shifting projects is hard. Does anyone have any information on how much it would cost to ship/ transport a 25 foot boat and who would do it? Given in mind I don't want to spend more than £4000 on shipping would this be possible?

Replies would be much appreciated

Sounds good in principle but . . .

If you are importing into the EU, then you have to comply with the dreaded legislation. You will also have to pay VAT as well, I believe.

All much too horrendous to contemplate IMHO ! !

Just go around a few boatyards here, and see what looks like "Abandoned" boats, then make a few enquiries. There was a thread about this in tha last couple of weeks.

Good Luck !

Under £4,000?

I think you'll be lucky to manage it for this. Shipping costs depend on the boat size in relation to standard containers. You could ask one of the specialist yacht shippers, like Peters & May, for a preliminary quote.

As well as shipping costs you have to pay for transport at either end, insurance, VAT and import duty on arrival, and to get the boat EC-marked if it isn't already.

Container lines do do open pallet type units for this type of load which slot into the standard container location points.
There is also RORO type container ships plying the North Atlantic if your buy is on a trailer.
Then there are many ways of shipping it as deck cargo on other types of vessels like break bulk vessels etc.
A quick phone call to a UK shipping agent (via yell.com) should give you an idea of overall costs and methods + paperwork.
If you go ahead then I would use an UK agent for ease of contact.

there are some similar questions over on Motor boat forum....can be done, but its not as great as it first looks. One comment was get the engines done over there are its so much cheaper.. Also maybe as you meant, over there boats are perhaps more of a disposable item than a luxury one here.. therefore poor condition may mean really poor condition. Try a search on the other forum

I recently shipped a 33ft Fairey Swordsman back from Florida. I live in the Channel Islands, so no VAT. Plus the boat is too old to require CE marking. However, if you want a competitive shipping quote, don't use a UK agent. I tried but none of those I contacted were either interested or willing to give a sensible quote. I used an American agent, who was helpful and whose charge was very reasonable considering the non-standard nature of the load. His details are:
