HI all,

My shipmate RS8400 vhf is suffering from a wierd problem. the LCD display that shows the selected channel just shows two vertical segments and whatever channel I type in then press enter - it just says error. Even the channel 16 override button can not select a channel. Any ideas? thanks in advance

My RS8400 radio has developed the same problem as you had. I note there were no replies to your post, did you manage to fix it, if so please let me know how.

If it's been on the boat over the winter take it home, open it up, and dry it in the airing cupboard.
 
Pity, it gave another few years of life to my Navico VHF and a Garmin GPS when I thought the displays were dead.
 
I had the same problem with one of my handsets after I trapped the wire to the hand set and cut one of the wires in the lead.

I opened the outer casing and reconnected the cut wire and the hand set display came right.

Either re[lace the lead from the base set to the hand set or check if the lead is damaged as mine was.

Yes I think you are correct, and I will have to get a Simrad repair centre to re-program the unit.

Unlikely to require 'putting in the airing cupboard' as it is currently 25deg/C here in Turkey
