Went down to Kings Marine to settle up for the works on Ex Libris today. The whole job came in under budget/quote and I am very happy.

The hull has been repainted and the ropes have been replaced by the guys who did them when she was made. Lots of bilgey work done too. And a DAB radio fitted :)

I wish I could figure out how to post photos on this forum from Flickr, but I cannot. Here she is:

And check out the rope...

look the other way please :). I wish to steal that boat, she is just 'right'. Hope you all have lots fun together.

Have you been really prissy about the rope fendering, and used a Z lay on one side, and an S lay on 'tother ?

Lovely comments, thank you. The guys who did the rope have probably been more prissy than me! It is a nice job, done by specialists, and I am really pleased with it.

Lovely looking boat. What is she?

She is a prototype, built by Peter Nicholls in 1998. A failed prototype - she was supposed to be semi displacement but she won't plane. So he fitted her out well and used her as a demonstrator before being sold as a liveaboard. Then we bought her. I was looking around at steel boats to get a feel for them. Met Ex Libris and just had to have her :)

a Peter Nicholls' boat ! I should have guessed from the lines.

I have a load of drawings from him when I was looking at the Huffler, about 10 years ago.

Lovely lovely boat indeed. I think I'd sell half a house to have one !

Hufflers are nice. He didn't progress with his plans to make a steel cabin cruiser, so Ex Libris is unique and we love her for it. We tease our neighbour who has 1 of 4 remaining RAF flying boat refulers. "Common", I call her (lightheartedly). Ex Libris is a nice thing. A bit flawed - quite tippy and won't go very quickly. But she has soul.

Peter Nicholls made Timothy Spall's "Princess Matilda" too.

Peter's a great guy - I've known him since the 80's - but his expertise to my mind was always for inland craft.

When watching the Spalls' cruised I wonder why there's not a lot more than a bit of 'D' section between the deck and the oggin. Looks frightening when Shane went forward in a bit a blow..

Sagar's boats look more seaworthy with rails.

'suppose that TS new PN as both were in the Midlands area?

Although I currently have a plastic tub, steel gets my vote every time and I will be returning to steel again shortly.
If only we could bend metal like the Dutch who are masters of the art in my opinion.

I love these old iron-age boats too, it's such a shame that they have to rust away and generally electolyse themselves to oblivion. Plastic boats... er... get so dirty?

:):D:rolleyes:

Boat looks lovely but pity about the Hairyqueens rugby shirt (Wasps will sort them out in September). Seen a few Hufflers around, not all that impressed. A sort of sailing one one the Deben, and their was a US owner of a Huffler on the Thames - I think the name was "Ranger" - who had a few problems.
