Shell Channel Pilot...worth replacing?

My copy of the excellent SCP dates from 2009, it's the 6th edition. I'm off on a West Country cruise next month, so is it worth updating to the 8th edition? For what it's worth I'm unlikely to be going into any of the harbours where it's a very tide constrained approach with shifting sandbanks, and anything that's changed from Poole to the Solent (e.g. Cowes breakwater) I'm probably aware of anyway. However my copy is getting on 10 years old now.

Thoughts appreciated!

We’ve done the same trip this year (boat currently moored on the Tamar whilst we do other things) and carried both the Channel Pilot and Mark Fishwick’s West Country Cruising Companion, which is about the same size as the Channel Pilot but covers a quarter of the area. So far we’ve found the pilotage clear and the local information helpful. However, there are four sets of updates and corrections on line which vary from useful (new phone numbers) to mildly irritating (changing “Brixham coastguard” to “Falmouth” on every other page, which I skipped.

A quick comparison of editions 7 & 8 of the Channel Pilot led to me not buying the latest,but I haven’t compared 6 & 8.

We visited the West Country from the Solent the last two years after a break of ten years or so, the only substantive changes I can recall are new marinas at Portland and Plymouth (King Point) and possibly the new pontoons at Torquay and the revised harbour entrance at Bridport.

I did (from 5th edition), but regretted it. If you were planning a military operation you might value some of the updates, but really, very little changes. The biggest deal is something like new all-tide walk-ashore pontoons in St Peter Port: useful to know, but probably not going to change your plans or spoil your holiday.

In short...no need IMHO. Plymouth has got a bit more upmarket..Falmouth a bit quieter. Rocks all seem in the same place...
