I managed to shear the head off the bolt holding the anode on the gear casing on a tohatsu 6hp outboard. I reckon I can cut away the remains of the anode to expose the rest of the bolt, what's a good way to spin the shaft of the bolt out of it's hole? Any good ideas for removing the next one in one piece if I can get this one out?

It's hard to see in the pic but the anode and the bolt are recessed down a rectangular hole.

This bolt seemed particularly weedy, are outboard bolts always like that?

I would think your best bet is an eezyout kit---£4 OR £5 from B&Q or similar. Only other thing I thought of was a drill chuck to hold the shank but I doubt you'd have room.

First clear the remnants and then try a little heat on the bolt, followed by overnight soak in wd40 and finally a pair of mole grips to the bolt shank. If that don't work, drill and tap another hole and use nickel paste to stop it seizing. No copaslip!

Thanks guys.

I coaxed it out by heating it with the blowtorch attachment for a maplin gas soldering iron and batheing it in 3in1 oil a few times then eased it out with a small pair of molegrips over the length of an afternoon in the end. It was a huge faff but it came out leaving the thread in the aluminium in good condition, just need a new bolt now.
