Over the years, I have listened, with wide-eyed attention, to tales from the elder-salts about large sharks following yachts for days. In 10 000 miles, I have yet to see one. Am I the only one that has missed out on the experience?

Like never hearing the sound of the gun that fires the bullet that kills you, you will most probably only ever see one shark /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ........I'm in a cheerful mood today!

If you're implying that I am a lawyer, step outside and let me introduce you to my new baseball bat.

[/ QUOTE ]Not in the least but I'll happily step out side so long as you don't mind me bringing a couple of my friends - a Mr Smith and a Mr Wesson - they could make friends with your Base Ball bat, or maybe I could bring along another couple of friends - Mr Sam Colt and Mr John Browning. Ach what the Hell - I'll bring them all - let's have a party...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fred Drift, is that you I hear...

Getting back to the original waffle, who has seen sharks following their boats?

''I've had all types of sharks in my boat-Solicitors,Accountants,Consultants etc etc ''..

As the captain of one's own vessel , the captains word is law -Aren't paybacks great ?

We had a white tip follow us from the Cape Verde Islands half way across to Brasil- about 8ft big too, bit of a problem when we were trying to change the wind vane's rudder. We developed interesting distraction tactics to get the shark to come up to the bowsprit while my dad went in the water trying not to cause too much of a stir...it seemed to like the tinkling of teacups and tinned pate, after about 40 cans of the stuff and reading the ingredients list, i was decidedly put off- ah, long haul stores- I am so glad these days I have a fridge.

We saw a few, not very often though- usually just little ones when we were inshore, apart from the white tip they were all pretty insignificant!

Seen loads of sharks in the Gulf of Mexico, way offshore, mostly hammerheads.
Never had the impression they were following us or even interested in us.
We just happened to be in the same area at the same time. Also seen them a lot in West Africa. I’ve yet to spot one in Southeast Asia or around the British Isles.

Yep.. I have seen them around thre OZ coast and in the Pacific.. but never been followed by one..
( have also seen plenty ashore in some destinations of the World)
