Shameless self promotion - member\'s novel The Antigallican

Those of you who have sailed with me know I am an enthusiastic but sometimes clumsy sailor - Jimi seemed to forgive me for crash gybing his boat it Portsmouth harbour, though he did give me a funny look when I wound the sheet the wrong way round his winch. However I hope I'm a little less clumsy with words. Writing is what I do for a living. So, bringing fiction and sailing together for the first time in my career, I'd like to warn you all that 'The Antigallican by Tom Bowling' (see Tesco entertainment or London Bookshop ) is by me. Waterstones have copies now. Yes, Tom Bowling is a well known nautical pseudonym but it was also my great grandfather's name, so I feel entitled to use it. If any of you read the novel (about a Jersey fisherman on a French ship during the action of the Glorious 1st June 1794) I sincerely hope you enjoy it. After all, that's the point.

Fantastic response guys - uplifting. I hope it lives up to expectations and don't mind at all if you report back on any fouled lines or Irish pennants. Experience teaches me that even with the best of research more experienced/professional sailors can always find a few.

Thanks very much gents. I am of course writing the 2nd (which is why I don't post much now). I've found myself a French publisher too - who says the French have no sense of humour?

I enjoyed reading it - a refreshing new perspective!

I hope some more volumes are not too far over the horizon!

Thanks Holger and the other members who wrote to me either on here or privately. There is another one under way but it won't appear until Jan '10, as I can't deliver it before May owing to work (the four letter word!). I must say I enjoy writing them immensely - but the research! Writing crime novels is a lot easier. When you try to do it yourself you realise the scale of the achievement of people like O'Brian.
