Guernseylad - I used to own a Shakespeare 17ft bowrider for 3 years. I fitted a 100HP Suzuki to it. Great boat. If you want advice and pictures, then PM me with your email address and your questions and I will supply.

Betcha didn't know that that these boats were built by an old power boat racer by the name of "Bill Shakespeare"

I have sent you the piccies of my Shakespeare. It shows the tank and an in-line filter separator I used to keep the fuel very clean (important). The fuel tank can be mounted in the transom, or if you have room, in the bow with a long fuel line. More weight on the front end brings it onto the plane more easily – great for ski starts. My 100 Suzy would make it leap out of the water and get up to 49mph. Previously I had a 90HP Merc, which didn’t have the top speed of the Suzy, but it still leapt out of the water when you slammed the throttle open. You will need at least 70HP to make it useful. Use a slightly finer pitched prop to deliver acceleration against top speed or vice versa.

Hi

if you go to google and type shakespeare boats the first in the list is a good site for shakespeare boats., something like www.dsv etc etc

they are nice boats if a bit flat bottomed and beamy for performance sea use, but the trade off is that you get respectable speeds from relatively small engines and stable at rest.

If it were me id position the fuel tank at the rear of the boat, you wont have any problems getting onto plane and the weight at the rear helps prevent cavitation and aids stability of the boat and engine.

not sure what engine would give you the speed you want but also bear in mind they have relatively low freeboard.

I have a 115hp on a 15 foot ocr boat with 25/26 pitch prop and that hits 60mph with 4 on board. it weighs in at 420kg inc engine.

check transom for dampness they have been known to go soft over time.

have fun

Kevin

Who was based in Tewkesbury, Glos. Seem to recall he was unfortunately killed in a powerboat accident.
