I was checking on my day boat after the recent gales and noticed that someone had taken both galvanised shackles. One from the chain connected to the riser and onto the boat. The other from the strop connected to the buoy which is welded to the riser.

At least they had the decency to tie the boat up with string. Are times really that hard that people are now resorting to stealing shackles?

Do not think that it is because times are so hard.
I think it is that some people are just that way and will steal anything.

Here on our pontoon I leave out my hose (neatly coiled) so that others can use it, saves them getting theirs out etc.
Most neighbours do the same, every few boats or so, It is an unwritten code of practice that we have to help fellow sailors out.

However on two occassions recently I have returned to find the hose disconnected and the tap adaptor missing.
Yes the 50p adaptor that I buy from our equivalent of B&Q, the same that can be bought at the marina office for 60p by any other marina user.

But to some people, stealing my adaptor is easier.
I have a locker full of them, last trip I bought half a dozen.

I have decided for an easier life not to get upset about my little adaptors and stock up so myself and neighbours have water when we need it.
