Hi folks

I have an SH300 chart plotter. Its currently connected to the DSC radio, AIS and repeater. I'd like to add my ST1000+ autohelm. Can I add it to the same wire as the repeater (the yellow port3 wire)? The unit comes with another cable which I can't find, do I need to use that?
Any help appreciated.

Simon

Hi,

Done this with my Raymarine ST4000+ and CP300.

The input marked on the Autpilot as NMEA -ve is connected to the NMEA Common of the CP300, the Raymarine NMEA +ve goes to the Tx of a spare port on the Plotter (I used Port 3). Check in the port settings on the plotter that the Autopilot NMEA data is enabled (It was by default on mine).

It is not a special wire or connector on my Raymarine unit, just a normal spade.

I prefer to think of it as being thorough rather than anal ;)

As the boat is 600km away I needed to have everything prepared beforehand - hence the diagram and the bench tests. I also know that in a few months, perhaps weeks, I'll never remember which wire does what.

Now I've got a nice reference. :D

Incidentally after a good few hours poking, proding, cutting, soldering and crimping it all fired up first time and just worked. Only problem was the beer was warm as the fridge went on the blink, but that's another story. (see other thread).

The diagram, I'm ashamed to say, was done in Powerpoint. :o:eek:

The black blobs represent screw terminals which were in waterproof connection blocks, one behind the panel at the chart table, the other in the steering binnacle €4,99 each ...

Then just used 20m of 1mm 7-core trailer cable to join the two boxes. Installation cost was about €40-€50 in total.

Once all wires were connected, the box innards were liberally sprayed with WD40 and sealed to help prevent corrosion.
