SH GX2400 send AIS (0183) to Garmin Echomap UHD 75CV

Yup Paul, but BOTH the UHD2 7x manual and the UHD 75cv manual tell you that the unit will not receive AIS via NMEA0183. So whether the machine in question is UHD or UHD2, nmea0183 AIS wont work. All clear from Garmin's website.
You are correct, the UHD2 does not even have 0183.

Looking back, it's a little confusing, the OP says it's a UHD2, but also says he's been making 0183 connections.

Either way, both models will accept AIS via N2K (as you say), i somehow missed that when i checked the UHD2 spec. The OPs SH 2400 has N2K, so he just needs a starter kit and it's all good to go.

In my defence, I discussed the capabilities with a store assistant, he told me that the unit would display AIS. He too was thinking the UHD 2 was superior to the UHD, understandable logic.

I joined this forum for friendly advice and knowledge which I have received however, I don’t need to be berated by you with your condescending remarks so I will make this my last post.
You can connect the VHF to the plotter with a basic NMEA2000 network and AIS will work, thanks to jfm for highlighting that, i missed it when i looked at the specs.
