I am looking for a professional to service and calibrate a couple of sextants. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

PS that is recommendations of good people to do the work, not the childish stuff about getting a GPS etc....

i took mine to kelvin hughes (in the minories at the time). they re-silvered the mirrors adjusted and re-callibrated. the charge was over £100 but it means my 40 year old sextant is now fit for another 40.

I had mine done by Mr. Robinson at Hamble, it was actually a rebuild job on an old K-H sextant in a case. I was very happy with it. The number escapes me but there's a Motor Boat thread about swinging a compass and it's the same man.

Ah!

I have a Plath, which is fine, but it came (secondhand, recertificated by Potters, back in the days when they still existed) with a 6 x 30, which is great, and an artificial horizon, which seems to have given up the ghost. I never use it at sea, but it was fun in the back garden....I found the Plath website and discovered that (a) they no longer make the Navistar, but have a few available ...price on application (does not sound good!) and (b) the artificial horizon costs sums beyond the dreams of avarice!

If he can fix it, he's a hero, and I will even drive all the way to Southampton with my pride and joy on the back seat!
