Neeed some repairs to my windscreen cover, I tried to use some polyester thread that I bought some years ago, for the same type of job, but it would not work reliably in the domestic sewing machine, I then tried some nylon thread and this worked fine.

Question is will the nylon thread last, or do I need some other thread type?

Nylon is slightly stronger than polyester and slightly less abrasion resistant. On a scale of 0-5, nylon is 5 on strength, 4 on abrasion resistance; polyester is 5 on abrasion resistance, 4 on strength. Polypropylene would be around 2 on the same scale.
The important thing is to not have too fine a stitch pitch or you can get the 'toilet paper' effect.

The correct thread is 'Bonded Polyester'. Speak to Kayospruce and they can recommend the correct size. It's sold in both small sizes (1oz ?) or a large bobbin for commercial use.
Did you use a large enough needle? FRom experience you need a larger needle than you would normally use.

For longer life you need a thread that is UV resistant, UV is what degrades the thread the most.

I agree. Best bet is to go to something like Dabond v69. This would be fine with a domestic machine. The trick is to use the correct needle and set the lower tension to suit, then adjust the top tension.

The old thread would probably be fine with the correct needle and tensions. Use UTube to find how to adjust your machines bobbin tension. Once this is done sewing is a breeze.
