you dont meen that the UK charges for sewing small things?
As for a skill thats sure!!It took me ages almost two years (not full time) before i managed to guide the material without breaking the thread!!Then quite some practice before i could take cloth and sew!! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
I spent a hundred times more time untangling the thread in the machine when i got it wrong!!once i was sooooooooooooo angry i threw a machine overboard!!!NOT A GOOD one just a sewing machine to practice with also an ELNA but no zig zag then a second hand one in CH cost about £10
Learning was torment!!Not least i suspect for the woman helping me!!!! Thank heaven i can sew more or less now!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifAnd thank heavans for patent Females!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I have just been talking to Mike at this place; http://www.barchamsewing.co.uk/
They have an amazing stock of s/hand and recon machines and he is quite happy to discuss requirements.
They had one of the handdriven singers for £50 but its gone now.
Also they can beef up machines for canvas and sail work and convert to Handraulic. A good recon which would be suitable for sail work would come in at about £100.
Nice people.
Update;Mikes just phoned me back he's got a Farina zig zag machine which he is converting to hand use £90, which he says will be suitable for medium sail and canvas work.If any ones interested give him a ring.
Usual caveats,no commercial interest. And I know nothing about sewing machines
wow, that sounds useful! The problems I had in my 'yoof' with reconditioned Singer, Pfaff and other antiques look to be a thing of the past? popeye has a vague memory of a smallish hand operated machine used by one of his mates during a Whitbread, but said mate is rowing across the Atlantic at the moment, do difficult to get info!
