Does anybody know the situation regarding raw sewage being discharged into the tidal Thames from residential houseboats.
A local boat club on the MEDWAY is having serious problems with human sewage arriving on their slipway from nearbye houseboats and are trying to get something done about it.
Any comments or suggestions most welcome. How does the Thames deal with this ?
All local powers that be are saying...not our problem matey.

How often do you see livaboards on the non tidal going to pumpouts???
The Teddington/Hamm Squat rarely move.
The same all the way upstream.

OG is on the tidal Medway …..

There is a long term problem on the Medway around Hoo affecting local boaters.Peel Ports have suggested in the past there apparently is no legal reason for the dumping of raw sewage into the tidal waters of the Medway not to carry on.

According to the River Police Twitter feed (@MPSonthewater)

"60boats illegally moored between Teddington to Kingston. All had eviction notices served. 20 unregistered boats reported. #OpRiverside"

This was a joint Richmond Upon Thames council, Environment Agency & Metropolitan Police effort.

How old is that Tweet? Has it had any effect?

It is a criminal offence to discharge noxious and polluting matter into a controlled watercourse. Contact the EA and report it as an incident using their hotline on 0800 80 70 60 - ask for feedback when you report it. Also make sure you call when it happens not 5 days later!

In addition local harbour/mooring by-laws may also prohibit the discharge so contact them as well.

Tweeted yesterday. I presume Borough of Richmond new by law has come into force.
