Severe Weather Warnings???

I just looked on the web to see what weather has in store for the next few days. I looked at these two websites and am not sure what to make of it as they seem to contradict each other.

Just as well I am not planning to go afloat this weekend but it would still be helpful if I could find out whether we are due for severe gales in the next few hours.

I'm confused too.... the inshore forecast said it could get to force 10 to force 11, yet the other sites I've been looking at its no where near that. and current wind speeds look like a nice days sail /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hurst ( http://www.weather-file.com/hurst/ ) reported a gust of 115.5 kts at 1510 this afternoon - a black cloud came through about then which rattled my tiles quite a bit here in Christchurch. And there are a couple more cu-nimbs tramping in from Swanage!

Shotkey on the East coast is reporting an average of 45kts.... pretty breezy out there....

39kts @ SYH 14H00 - puts some extra warps on

Amazingly - saw something "small" (guess 30ft) heading downriver when we arrived. You'd have thought he was in open sea - lumpy

The 12 hour wind strength/direction graph at Chimet is interesting today. Note the wind strength spikes around the veer events.

The oscillation looks like classic wave depression behaviour to me, says he who has never passed an RYA exam.

Interesting....
Note also the fairly sharp drops in Chimet's record of air temperature, which closely coincide with the gusts and wind shifts. Pity the barometric pressure readout is rather 'coarse' on the graph or we could work out some kind of 4-variable theory?
