Bugger because of nasty weather in Jan I forgot to remove curtains. In Cornwall we have had crazy weather recently cold, damp warm and this have given me mildew ridden curtains.
Any ideas how to remove this staining please.
Thanks
Keith

Milton Sterilising Solution is supposed to work .. Soak curtains first and then wash .. ( Ps ) Most chemists .. Baby bottle cleaner .. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just bought some sterilising fluid - £1 for a litre - got it at a pound shop. Well the price was not a misnomer.

vanish on a 60 degreee wash

Vanish is a stain hider as well as a remover - it is just more powerful at it than most washing powders.

Milton fluid is a type of bleach based product but not same as common bleach. It's basically milder and safer for your little toddler !

Mildew ? Once it's there - hard to eradicateas as it can lay dormant for years waiting for damp again to come along.

How to get rid of the staining ? Severe is unlikely as the level of cleaning would be damaging to the material is has impregnated. Light staining can be washed out with any stain remover / decent wash - repeated. Soaking in warm dilute bleach is effective.

My wife says that only blokes would suggest bleach.
Unless you want to end up with white curtains, may be they are already white?

Use Napisan!! After trying everything except Voodoo, SWMBO stuck her head round the utility room door and said, 'Napisan will do that easily' so she bought some!

The 'trick' is to mix up as on the packet, then put the curtains in very hot water (i.e. as hot as you can hold your hand in) they are just covered. Leave for 48 HOURS at least.

My 'spotted dick' curtains came out literally like new. As I precaution, I would try one on it's own first, just in case your curtain material is delicate, though obviously (the stuff's made for babies nappies) it is completely non aggresive.

It really does work, but MUST be left for at least 48 hours if you want to get rid of the feint gray spots that ordinary washing leave behind.
