Seven Stones, St Martin's

After a long-ish day beating into the WSW wind we anchored in St Martin's bay, IoS, on Saturday evening. I'd been pacifying my crew with promises of the delights of the 7 Stones pub for the last couple of hours - but when we rowed ashore we found that it's closed and not a soul about apart from one friendly tabby cat.

What happened? Anyone know of it's future?

With all of us being rowers and/or coxes, watching the gig racing the next day was compensation 'tho, and fortunately the Turk's Head is still very much operating.

As stated in an earlier thread (a couple of months or so ago) the Sevenstones pub went into administration last year (June/July time) and is up for sale by the administrators (bank), the hotel also went into liquidation at the beginning of the year and is also up for sale with no buyer in sight. So for now and the foreseeable there is no drinking establishment on St Martins although you can have a pint with your meal at Adams fish n chips and the cafe's will do a bottle or can of beer, other than that take a carry out.

All other island drinking dens are still operating as normal at this time.

Thanks; I guessed it must be so but couldn't find a thread about it when I did a google search. It's not that visiting a pub is that important to me, but that it indicates that all isn't well with the island economy, which is is a great pity. Can it really be just the fault of last summer's awful weather or is there something systematically wrong?

I really like St Martin's but it seems much less visited by yachts than it deserves to be. Last weekend there was one catamaran on a mooring in Tean sound, plus us quite alone anchored to the N, whereas the cove - a much less peaceful place to be in the S - SE wind forecast - had several yachts, and doubtless New Grimsby, which I'm less fond of candidly, was heaving as always.

Not the weather as far as the pub was concerned . . . . but thats a personal opinion . . . . the hotel was another story with much more to it and a real shame it has gone as it was really popular as an eating and drinking place. As you said though not too many yachts venture up around St Martins but of late yacht numbers have been very low anyway and those that there are as you say generally stick to the standard places.
