I often find that working upside down with bad light and trying to line up a hole in a part with a hole in another part it is very difficult to locate the ( first especially !) bolt or set screw.
I know some bolts have a tapered end or little stub that makes this somewhat simpler. What is the term for this kind of bolt/set screw please?
Forgot to mention my other old age problem is lack of 'feel' in my finger ends making 'cross threading' bolts more common than in the past.
Can one aquire these special bolts across the range of standard sizes?
Thanks all !!

I think what you are looking are dog point screws but I have only seen these as grub screws never any headed screws/bolts.

I have made some sct screws with a dog point but I took normal set screws and turned a dog point onto the screw.

I used these on my beaching legs to allow me to fir wing nuts without dropping then over the side when connection the sections of legs together.

I think the correct term is "dog point". If you Google for "dog point" screw you should find some, if I've correctly understood what you're looking for.

I'm sure you already know this, but to avoid cross threading, turning the screw backwards until you feel it "drop" into the thread.
